FDA Approves Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine for Emergency Authorization
Just as many expected, the Food and Drug Administration convened on Friday and granted emergency use authorization to Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine candidate.
Pfizer and BioTech has touted the vaccine as having 95% percent effectiveness in preventing COVID-19 and no serious side effects or medical concerns.
President Donald Trump has touted the effectiveness and efficiency both of the vaccine candidate and Operation Warp Speed, which has been plotted out by the White House.
Trump also stated that the vaccine will be made free to all Americans, regardless of healthcare provider.
The first vaccine is expected to be administered in 24 hours from approval. Also, 2.9 million doses will be shipped out in Pfizer’s initial distribution.
Health care workers and nursing home residents are expected to receive the vaccine first.
