Utility cut off suspensions extended until May 26th
The Mississippi Public Service Commission announced today that utility cut off suspensions have been extended until May 26th.
After May 26th, if payment plans have not been arranged, customers are subject to cut offs of power, water, sewer, and gas services.
The PSC also made the following provisions to further help customers: All utility services are to begin offering payment plan options for any customer with a past due balance. Cash deposits held by utility service may be used to pay on a past due balance, so long as customer and utility company are in agreement on this.
If a customer has qualified for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), their service will not be disconnected for 30 days. The Commission also continues to prohibit cutoffs in the event of excessive heat warnings issued by the National Weather Service.
On the Commission’s website, they have provided links for more information on how to apply for qualification for the IHLEAP. The Commission continues to right to issue more orders if needed to protect public health and welfare.
