Some grocery items are dropping in price at the supermarket
You might be seeing a few grocery items drop in price over months past, according to new information from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
The Consumer Price Index for June 2023 indicated that it rose 0.2 percent in June on a seasonally-adjusted basis, after an increase of 0.1 percent in May.
Prices were relatively unchanged in May and June but they are still 4.7 percent higher than a year ago. However, urban prices for a number of grocery items actually fell. Those items included eggs, meats, vegetables, grains, and dairy products.
The website Stacker used BLS statistics to rank the largest decreases in food items in the South. The list of states making up the South for the report included Tennessee, Mississippi, and Arkansas.
The items listed ranged from all-purpose white flour, which dropped 0.4 percent in June at number 13, to eggs, which dropped 16.3 percent per dozen in June.
The other items ranked included strawberries, potato chips, lemons, white bread, malt beverages, american processed cheese, whole milk, bananas, chocolate chip cookies, wine, along with spaghetti and macaroni.
