Officer-involved shooting in Clay County
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is investigating an officer involved shooting involving the Clay County Sheriff’s Office that occurred on Friday, April 26.
According to MBI, a deputy with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle when the driver refused to stop, leading them on a brief pursuit. The pursuit ended on Landfield Road in West Point, Mississippi, when the driver left the vehicle and then led the deputy in a brief foot pursuit before displaying a firearm toward the deputy.
Preliminary reports are the deputy then discharged his weapon striking the subject, who was taken to a nearby hospital. The deputy involved did not receive any serious physical injuries.
