New Year holiday travel period 

Dec 30, 2024-The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) will ramp up enforcement efforts in anticipation of the  New Year’s Holiday Travel Period, which is set to start on Dec. 31 at 6 a.m. and conclude on Jan.1 at 12 midnight. Troopers will utilize high-visibility patrols and safety checkpoints to encourage safe driving techniques and the use of occupant restraint systems. 

“As we approach the New Year’s holiday, the Mississippi Highway Patrol and first responders across  Mississippi are committed to ensuring the safety of everyone traveling on our roadways,” said Sean Tindell, Commissioner of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety. “We urge all Mississippians to celebrate responsibly by wearing seat belts, obeying traffic laws, and never driving under the influence. Let’s work together to make this a safe and joyous start to the New Year for everyone.” 

“As we wrap up 2024 and gear up for the new year, it is crucial that we remain vigilant about safe travel,” said James Ivory, Lt. Colonel of the Mississippi Highway Patrol. “We are committed to establishing a solid  foundation for a safe and successful 2025, and we need the public’s active participation to achieve this. It is  imperative that you have a plan to ensure a safe New Year’s celebration. Together, we can ensure that we all  welcome the New Year safely and joyfully.”
