Most popular baby names in 2024 listed

If your new baby’s name was Liam, William, Ava, or Olivia, your baby has one of the most popular names of 2024, according to the Social Security Administration, or SSA.

The list of the most popular baby names for the year has been released by SSA. Here is their list of the top 10 names for 2024:

For Olivia, it is the sixth straight year that has been the most popular name. Emma has been either the first or second-most popular name every year since 2012.

On the boys’ side, Liam has been listed number one for eight consecutive years and was number two for three year prior to that. Noah has actually switched with Liam during the time frame, second the last eight years and first the three yars before that.

In Mississippi, William is the number one boys’ name, followed in the top five, in order, by John, James, Noah, and Liam. Ava is tops for girls, followed in order by Olivia, Amelia, Harper and Mary. All names are from Social Security card applications for births that occurred in the United States after 1879.

Note that many people born before 1937 never applied for a Social Security card, so their names are not included in our data. For others who did apply, records may not show the place of birth, and again their names are not included in the data.

All data are from a 100 percent sample of our records on Social Security card applications as of March 2025.

National name data is restricted to births in the 50 States and District of Columbia. The data on births in U. S. territories are not included in the national data.
