Capitol Police working stand-off in Belhaven
On Thursday, Sept. 7, Mississippi Capitol Police responded to a call regarding a domestic violence situation at a residence on Fairview Street in Jackson.
Upon arrival, officers initially encountered a man attempting to leave the residence. When officers approached the home, the suspect retreated inside the residence. It was determined that there was a woman in the home who was then taken hostage by the man.
The man was identified as 40-year-old Daniel Fairly. The unidentified woman was able to escape from the home and did not receive any serious physical injuries.
Capitol Police officers did not receive any serious physical injury and were able to successfully negotiate with Fairly and quickly deescalate the situation at hand. Fairly was arrested at the scene without any further incident. Charges are pending.
“Situations like this are never easy, but I am proud of the swift response done by the team here at Capitol Police,” said Capitol Police Chief Bo Luckey. “I am thankful for the patience displayed by these officers and that we were able to quickly and efficiently de-escalate the situation and come out of this with no injuries.”
