Vicksburg police thank school resource officers on appreciation day
The Vicksburg Police Department posted on Facebook that “Today is School Resource Officer Appreciation Day,” thanking school resource officers for building relationships with students and for their work in the community, the department said.
In its social media message, the department said SROs “do so much more than wear the badge in our schools,” adding that they “show up for our kids” and “truly bridge the gap between law enforcement and students.” The post closed with an expression of gratitude: “We appreciate you!”
School resource officers are sworn law enforcement personnel assigned to schools who often take on roles beyond security, including mentorship, conflict mediation and developing relationships with students, parents and staff. Supporters say those duties can help foster trust and improve school safety, while critics sometimes question scope and oversight.
The department’s Facebook message reflects a broader emphasis in many communities on community policing and student engagement. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
