An unknown vehicle struck and killed 31-year-old Denzel Smith on McDowell Road late Monday, JPD Precinct 1 officers said.
Officers were dispatched at approximately 8:41 p.m. on Feb. 16 to 411 E. McDowell Road after reports that a male pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle, JPD said. The Hinds County coroner and the department’s Accident Investigation Unit responded to the scene.
The investigation determined an unknown vehicle traveling east on McDowell Road struck Smith, who investigators believe was in the middle of the street in a wheelchair when he was hit. The vehicle did not remain at the scene, JPD said. The coroner recovered the body and next of kin were notified.
