Tupelo woman faces burglary charge in Boggan Drive case
TUPELO, Mississippi — A Tupelo woman has been charged in connection with a residential burglary reported Jan. 8 on Boggan Drive, the Tupelo Police Department said.
Officers responded to the Boggan Drive address after receiving a report of a burglary and spoke with the property owner, who said an acquaintance had forced entry into the home and taken an item, the department said.
After an investigation, police arrested Alexus I. Sykes, 31, of Tupelo, on March 19 and charged her with one count of burglary of a dwelling, the department said. During an initial court appearance on March 20, Tupelo Municipal Court Judge Allen Weir ordered Sykes held on a $5,000 bond.
The Tupelo Police Department said the case will be presented to the Lee County grand jury. Burglary of a dwelling is generally treated as a serious crime, and grand juries typically decide whether to return indictments based on presented evidence.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
