Tupelo man arrested on meth trafficking charge after undercover operation

LEE COUNTY, Miss. — A Tupelo man was arrested on a methamphetamine trafficking charge after an undercover operation in the Plantersville area, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said.

Sheriff Jim H. Johnson said deputies received information March 13 about suspected methamphetamine distribution in the area. Deputies and agents with the North Mississippi Narcotics Unit conducted a joint undercover operation that led to the arrest of Ray Charles Thompson, 39, of Tupelo, the sheriff’s office said.

Authorities said Thompson was found to be in possession of a trafficking quantity of methamphetamine and was charged with trafficking of a Schedule II controlled substance, methamphetamine. A Lee County Justice Court judge set Thompson’s bond at $25,000.

Methamphetamine is classified as a Schedule II controlled substance. Regional law enforcement agencies commonly use undercover operations and multi-agency narcotics units to investigate and disrupt suspected drug distribution, officials say. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
