Tornado warning for Greene County, Mississippi expires

A Facebook post said a tornado warning for Greene County, Mississippi, expired at 11:45 p.m. CDT.

Tornado warnings are issued by the National Weather Service when a tornado is imminent or occurring and present a threat to life and property. When warnings are in effect, people are advised to seek shelter immediately in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building and to avoid windows. Mobile homes, vehicles and outdoor locations provide limited protection from tornadoes.

Greene County is in southeastern Mississippi. The state routinely experiences tornadoes, particularly in the spring and early summer months, and residents depend on timely alerts from weather services, local media and emergency officials to take protective action.
