Tornado warning expires for Jackson County, Mississippi

A tornado warning for Jackson County, Mississippi that had been in effect until 12:00 a.m. CDT has expired, a Facebook post said.

Tornado warnings are issued when a tornado has been sighted or indicated by radar, the National Weather Service says. Warnings signal imminent danger and prompt residents to seek immediate shelter.

Jackson County lies along Mississippi’s Gulf Coast and includes communities that are periodically affected by severe storms and tornadoes. Residents in the area are advised to monitor local weather information, remain prepared to take shelter in a sturdy interior room away from windows, and follow instructions from local emergency officials.

The Facebook post provided limited detail about the warning and offered no additional information about damage or injuries. Expiration of a warning means the immediate threat has lessened, but storms can redevelop. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
