Tornado warning expires for Hancock, Harrison counties in Mississippi
A tornado warning for Hancock and Harrison counties in Mississippi expired at 11:30 p.m. CDT, a post on Facebook said.
The warning covered two counties on Mississippi’s Gulf Coast. Hancock and Harrison counties include coastal communities that can face heightened risk during severe weather outbreaks, particularly in spring and fall when atmospheric conditions favor rotating storms.
Tornado warnings are issued by the National Weather Service when a tornado has been sighted or indicated by radar and residents should take immediate shelter. Officials routinely advise moving to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, avoiding windows and seeking a location away from vehicles and mobile homes.
Even after a warning expires, dangerous conditions such as strong winds, heavy rain and flooding can persist. Residents in the affected counties should monitor local emergency channels and the National Weather Service for any further alerts. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
