Teen charged with capital murder in Jackson Grove Circle shooting
JACKSON — A 17-year-old was arrested and charged with capital murder in a Feb. 12 shooting at an apartment complex on Grove Circle that left one man dead and another injured, Jackson police said.
Officials identified the suspect as Javeon Wilson. On Wednesday, municipal court records show Wilson appeared before a judge who set a $250,000 bond on the aggravated-assault charge and set no bond on the capital-murder charge.
Wilson was taken into custody by the Jackson Police Department’s Robbery/Homicide Unit and was booked into city holding, police said. He is awaiting an initial court appearance.
Precinct 4 officers responded to reports of multiple people shot at the complex near North State Street. Investigators determined two people were injured and transported to local hospitals; hospital staff later told detectives that one victim, Glen Blackwell III, died from his injuries, while a second person was treated for non-life-threatening wounds, police said. Authorities initially described the suspects as five to six masked males who fled on foot, and they said the shooting appeared to be related to a robbery.
Police asked anyone with information to contact the Jackson Police Department at 601-960-1234 or Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS (8477). This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
