TCEPA asks public not to pick up damaged power poles, equipment
TCEPA said in a Facebook post that people should not remove damaged power poles or other equipment from its rights-of-way because the items will be needed for inventory documentation related to storm damage.
“Please do not pick up any damaged power poles or equipment from our TCEPA rights-of-way,” the agency said. The post added that crews will collect damaged TCEPA equipment after power restoration is complete.
Utilities and emergency officials routinely ask the public to leave downed infrastructure in place so crews can document damage, investigate causes and plan repairs. Downed poles and electrical equipment can be hazardous; downed power lines can remain energized and pose a risk of electrocution or fire.
Rights-of-way are areas utilities use to access and maintain power lines and related equipment. Preserving damaged equipment helps agencies account for losses and coordinate restoration work. TCEPA asked residents to report damaged equipment through its official channels and to avoid approaching downed lines. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
