Sun melts ice on some Southaven roadways; many streets remain icy
Sun is melting ice on some roadways in Southaven, but many streets remain icy, a Facebook post said. The post warned that neighborhoods in particular still have ice and urged caution for drivers.
If travel is necessary, drivers should exercise care, especially in locations where ice has melted and refrozen overnight. Refreezing can create slick, hard-to-see patches that increase the risk of crashes and make braking and steering more difficult.
Southaven is a city in DeSoto County in northern Mississippi and is part of the Memphis metropolitan area. Main roads and highways often clear faster because of higher traffic and road maintenance, while residential streets and shaded areas can hold ice longer, creating uneven conditions across the city.
Residents are advised to allow extra travel time, reduce speeds and leave additional space between vehicles when driving on potentially icy surfaces. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
