Sheriff urges residents to use Crime Stoppers to fight crime
JACKSON — Hinds County Sheriff Tyree D. Jones urged residents to report criminal activity through Central Mississippi Crime Stoppers, saying public safety depends on community involvement. In a Facebook post late last week, Jones said fighting crime is not solely the responsibility of law enforcement.
“The safety of our community is not the responsibility of law enforcement alone,” Jones said. “It belongs to all of us. Every tip called in, every piece of information shared, and every neighbor who speaks up makes our streets safer for the families we serve.”
Jones encouraged residents to use Central Mississippi Crime Stoppers, which allows individuals to submit tips anonymously. Crime Stoppers programs generally provide a way for community members to give information without revealing their identities. Tips may help law enforcement identify suspects and solve cases by supplementing police investigations with community-sourced leads.
Crime Stoppers accepts tips by phone at 601-355-TIPS (8477) and online at p3tips.com. “You do not have to give your name. You just have to care,” Jones said. “If you know something, say something. Together, we are stronger than crime.” We will provide more information as it becomes available.
