Scott County remembers Deputy Willie Harvey Comfort on Feb. 17 anniversary
The Scott County Sheriff’s Office is remembering Deputy Willie Harvey Comfort, whose End of Watch is listed as Feb. 17, 1946, the office said in a Facebook post.
Deputy sheriffs serve as the primary law enforcement officers for county jurisdictions, carrying out patrols, court security, investigations and community policing. The Scott County Sheriff’s Office, like other county agencies, honors members who died in the line of duty to recognize their service and sacrifice.
Comfort’s End of Watch in 1946 places his death in the immediate post-World War II era, a time when many communities were adjusting to peacetime. Memorials and annual remembrances for fallen officers help keep local history alive and provide an opportunity for current law enforcement and residents to reflect on the risks of public service.
Details about the circumstances of Deputy Willie Harvey Comfort’s death were not provided in the post. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
