Reeves updates response as winter storms kill two in Panola County

JACKSON, Miss. — Two more people have died as a result of recent winter storms, state officials said Feb. 1, 2026, as recovery efforts continue across Mississippi.

Gov. Tate Reeves provided an update in Jackson, according to a post by the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency on its Facebook page. The agency said state and local officials are working with hundreds of volunteers, faith-based organizations and private sector partners to assist affected communities.

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency coordinates state response to disasters, including mobilizing resources and connecting residents with relief organizations. Severe winter weather can cause dangerous road conditions, power disruptions and other hazards that complicate rescue and recovery work.

Officials did not release further details about the fatalities beyond their occurrence in Panola County. State agencies and local responders continue damage assessments and support for impacted residents. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
