Rankin County deputies arrest man in fish house burglary

RANKIN COUNTY, Mississippi — Rankin County deputies arrested a man Tuesday in connection with a burglary at a fish house on Dixie Road in the Florence area, the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies received a report of a commercial burglary on Feb. 24 after employees discovered cash missing from the register when they opened for the day, the sheriff’s office said. Investigators reviewed security footage that showed a male suspect in a black hoodie near the rear of the restaurant the previous night.

Authorities said the footage showed the suspect going to an electrical box and turning off the breaker, cutting power to the restaurant. Additional surveillance cameras in the area also captured images of the suspect, and deputies identified and arrested him in less than 24 hours.

The suspect was identified as Scott Dennis Roberts of Rankin County. He was booked into the Rankin County Jail and charged with burglary. The Rankin County District Attorney’s Office will bring Roberts before County Court Judge David Morrow for an initial appearance, the sheriff’s office said.

Sheriff Bryan Bailey thanked the deputies involved and said the department will continue working to keep Rankin County safe. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
