Pearl police resolve motel domestic disturbance after armed standoff

PEARL — Pearl police said an armed domestic disturbance at a motel Monday afternoon ended peacefully after a brief standoff and negotiations.

The Pearl Police Department said officers were called about 2:30 p.m. March 30 to the Super 8 Motel at 111 Airport Road after a woman reported that an ex was attempting to steal her vehicle. Officers from the Patrol and Special Operations divisions responded and began an investigation.

Police said the woman had injuries consistent with domestic violence and that officers learned which motel room the man was staying in. The man refused to answer the door, but officers reached him by phone and he told them he would not come out.

Because of the domestic-violence nature of the call, the department said it treated the situation as an armed-subject incident and turned it over to the Pearl Police Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics team. A certified hostage negotiator spoke with the man for about 30 minutes, and he exited the room and surrendered without incident, police said.

Police said the case ended peacefully and thanked the officers involved. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
