Oxford police detain person of interest after Jackson Avenue bank robbery

Oxford Police Department said Wednesday it has a person of interest in custody in connection with a bank robbery on Jackson Avenue earlier this morning.

The department said on its Facebook page it appreciates the community’s cooperation and praised the work of its officers, dispatchers and investigators in quickly addressing the incident. It also thanked the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department and the University Police Department for their assistance, and said more information will be released at a later date.

Oxford Police Department is the primary law enforcement agency for the city and typically leads investigations of this kind, often coordinating with county and campus partners when incidents occur near or involve multiple jurisdictions. Bank robberies prompt rapid multiagency responses because they can pose immediate public safety risks and may involve investigations that extend beyond city limits.

The person of interest remains in custody as investigators continue to develop the case. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
