Oxford police arrest 19-year-old in Feb. attempted sexual assault
The Oxford Police Department said it arrested a 19-year-old after receiving a walk-in report on March 5, 2026, about an attempted sexual assault that occurred the night of Feb. 26, 2026, in downtown Oxford.
Police said the reporting party had been in the downtown area and was walking toward her residence along University Avenue when a driver offered her a ride. After she entered the vehicle, the driver took her to another location, held her against her will and attempted to sexually assault her, the department said.
Investigators developed leads from the reporting party and from their own inquiries and identified the suspect as Keilun Treveon Lewis, 19, of Oxford. Lewis was arrested and charged with Attempt to Commit an Offense (Rape) and Kidnapping, and bond was set by a municipal court judge, the department said. The case remains under investigation.
The Oxford Police Department urged residents and visitors to remain vigilant. It advised people not to enter vehicles with individuals they do not know, to verify rideshare drivers and vehicles through apps before entering, to note vehicle and driver details and to consider sharing ride information with friends or family. The department identified designated rideshare pickup areas at the north end of the Square near the parking garage, the west side behind the Lyric and the east side near Harrison’s and South 14th Street.
Anyone with information or anyone who may have been the victim of a similar incident is asked to contact the Oxford Police Department at 662-232-2400. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
