National Guard distributes MREs, water in Lafayette County and Oxford
Lafayette County posted on Facebook that the Mississippi National Guard will distribute Meals, Ready-to-Eat and bottled water on Feb. 1 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., while supplies last.
The post said distribution will be limited to up to three days’ worth per person to help ensure supplies reach as many residents as possible. The county listed the following Lafayette County sites: Harmontown SO Substation, 12 County Road 517; Lafayette High School, 160 Commodore Drive; Lafayette County Fire Station 3, 22 County Road 369; and Oasis Church, 861 Highway 6 West.
In the City of Oxford the post listed City Hall, CB Webb, Wayne Johnson and Thacker at Garden Terrace as distribution points. The Facebook notice asked residents to be patient and kind, noting sites are being staffed by the Mississippi National Guard and that supplies are limited.
MREs, or Meals, Ready-to-Eat, are self-contained field rations commonly used in emergency response. The Mississippi National Guard often supports distribution of emergency supplies during local incidents and disasters. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
