Meridian police investigate shooting after reported vehicle crash
MERIDIAN, Mississippi — The Meridian Police Department is investigating a shooting after officers initially responded to a reported motor vehicle accident Wednesday evening, the department said.
Police said 911 received a call about 7:15 p.m. reporting a crash in the area of 18th Street between 30th and 31st avenues. Officers were dispatched to the scene and worked to ensure the victim received medical attention.
Authorities later determined the individual had suffered a gunshot wound, the department said. The victim was taken to a local hospital and later airlifted to a hospital in Jackson for further treatment. The person’s condition has not been released.
The case remains an active and ongoing investigation, and limited details were immediately available as detectives continue gathering information, police said. The Meridian Police Department serves the city of Meridian in east-central Mississippi and routinely investigates traffic crashes and violent incidents to determine cause and responsibility.
