MEMA urges safe debris removal after January ice storm
Mississippi Emergency Management Agency urged residents cleaning up after the January ice storm to follow guidelines for separating and removing debris, posting photos and links to additional resources on its Facebook page.
The agency said the post directs people to its disaster resources page for information about donation sites, how to report damage and updates on recovery efforts. The link on the post leads to MEMA’s online hub of assistance resources for affected residents.
Debris removal is a critical step in restoring access to roads and utilities and reducing public health hazards after severe winter weather. State and local emergency management agencies typically provide guidance so cleanup proceeds safely and so piles are handled in ways that facilitate disposal and potential reimbursement or assistance programs.
Residents are advised to watch for hazards such as downed power lines, unstable trees and improper disposal of household hazardous waste and to follow guidance from local authorities and MEMA. For more information, visit the agency’s website linked in the post. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
