Madison police arrest two in auto burglaries; seek third suspect

MADISON — Madison police said officers responded Thursday, Feb. 19, to reports of multiple vehicle burglaries across the city and developed leads that led them to Jackson, where investigators located a vehicle of interest on Maria Drive.

With assistance from the Mississippi Capitol Police and the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department, authorities arrested 25-year-old Willie Deonta Thomas and 23-year-old Harold Stiff, both of Jackson, the Madison Police Department said. Investigators said evidence connected to the burglaries was recovered during the probe.

Both men have been charged with eight counts of auto burglary, and additional charges are possible, investigators said. Authorities also issued a warrant for Christian B. Stiff of Jackson on eight counts of auto burglary and are seeking information that could lead to his arrest.

Investigators determined Thomas was on parole from the Mississippi Department of Corrections at the time of his arrest and said Harold Stiff is out on bond in Hinds County on an aggravated assault charge. The suspects are scheduled for an initial appearance in City of Madison Municipal Court, and the case will be forwarded to District Attorney Bubba Bramlett for prosecution. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
