Local cafe hosts session to separate human trafficking facts from myths
Organizers are inviting community members to learn what human trafficking is — and what it is not — at a public event titled “Coffee and Conversation” on Jan. 27 from 1-4 p.m. at Jacked Up Coffee Bar, organizers said in a Facebook post.
The post said the gathering will separate facts from common myths — including the stereotype of a white van — and will welcome those who are curious, concerned or want to learn more. The post also said Jacked Up Coffee will provide coffee and pastries for participants.
Human trafficking is a criminal exploitation that can include forced labor and sexual exploitation and can affect people of any age, experts say. It is often misunderstood, and community conversations aim to improve awareness, encourage reporting of suspicious activity and build support for survivors.
The event offers residents a chance to connect, ask questions and discuss the local impact of trafficking and ways to help. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
