Lee County Sheriff hosts DEA drug take-back April 24

Lee County Sheriff’s Department will host a Drug Enforcement Administration National Take Back Initiative collection event on Friday, April 24, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the department said in a Facebook post.

The post encouraged residents with unused prescriptions or other medications to take advantage of the event for safe disposal. The announcement did not specify an exact drop-off location or list items that will be accepted.

The DEA’s National Take Back Initiative is a recurring program that offers a safe, convenient and responsible way to dispose of unused or expired medications. Law enforcement agencies and community partners typically host collection events to help prevent prescription drug misuse and to reduce the risk of accidental poisonings and environmental contamination.

Events like the take-back day provide an opportunity for residents to remove unneeded medications from their homes, which public health officials say can help curb diversion and abuse. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
