Jakobe George turned himself in to the Starkville Police Department on Jan. 19, 2026, the department said. Additional information about his surrender is expected to be released Jan. 20.

The surrender follows an investigation into a report of shots fired Sunday morning outside a Sonic Drive-In at 913 Highway 12 West, the department said in a news release.

Officers responded at 10:47 a.m. on Jan. 18 and determined that a firearm was discharged during an altercation between individuals who are known to each other. No injuries were reported, but a vehicle was struck by gunfire, the release said.

An arrest warrant had been issued for George, 19, of Sturgis, who was being sought by law enforcement until his surrender. The department said its SWAT team executed multiple search warrants at several locations as part of the ongoing investigation. Several persons of interest, ages 16 to 19, are in custody and additional charges may be forthcoming.
