Jackson police investigate fatal shooting at apartment complex
Jackson police are investigating a fatal shooting that left a 27-year-old man dead early Monday outside an apartment complex, the department said.
Officers responded about 12:09 a.m. March 9 to the 600 block of Northpointe Parkway and found the body of a Black man lying on a sidewalk between two apartment buildings, Jackson Police Department officials said. The victim was identified as Anthony Watts, 27, who had been shot multiple times and died at the scene.
Authorities said Watts’ next of kin have been notified. Investigators believe the suspects were traveling in a late-model black Nissan occupied by three individuals. Police said the shooting is believed to stem from an ongoing dispute between the suspects and the victim, though the exact circumstances remain under investigation.
Detectives with the department’s Homicide Unit and Mobile Crime Unit and personnel from the Hinds County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene, police said. Watts’ death is the city’s 14th homicide of the year, according to the department.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Jackson Police Department at 601-960-1234 or Crime Stoppers at 601-355-8477. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
