Jackson police chief assesses communications division

Dr. Rashall Brackney, chief of the Jackson Police Department, conducted an assessment of the department’s Communications Division, the agency said in a post on its Facebook page.

The department did not provide further details in the post. Communications divisions typically handle emergency and nonemergency call-taking, dispatching of officers and coordination of radio and computer-aided dispatch systems that support day-to-day public safety operations.

Routine assessments of a police communications center can evaluate staffing, training, equipment, technology integration and procedures to ensure timely responses to 911 calls and other public safety requests. Such reviews aim to identify operational gaps and improve reliability, especially during large incidents or extreme weather events.

Jackson’s Communications Division plays a central role in connecting the public with police services and supporting officers in the field. Because the department’s post contained limited information, further specifics about the scope and findings of the assessment were not available. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
