Jackson County deputy injured responding to call

A Jackson County deputy was injured Friday afternoon when a patrol vehicle collided with another car while responding to a call, the Mississippi Highway Patrol said.

The crash occurred March 6 at approximately 3:37 p.m. on Old Fort Bayou Road, the highway patrol said. Deputies with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department were responding with lights and sirens activated when one of the patrol vehicles struck a Hyundai Santa Fe that was entering Old Fort Bayou Road from Rose Farm Road.

The deputy was transported to a local hospital with injuries, the patrol said. The driver of the Hyundai Santa Fe was not injured, officials said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department provides law enforcement across Jackson County on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and the highway patrol routinely investigates traffic crashes and enforces highway safety.
