Investigators arrest absconded sex offender in Rankin County

Investigators with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office said they arrested an absconded sex offender in Rankin County, Mississippi, the agency announced in a Facebook post that included photos of the arrest.

The sheriff’s office did not release the suspect’s name or additional details in the post. An absconded offender generally refers to someone required to register as a sex offender who has failed to comply with registration requirements or has otherwise evaded supervision.

Sex offender registration and monitoring are intended to protect communities by maintaining up-to-date information about individuals convicted of certain sexual offenses.
