Ice remains on roads, bridges in 23 Mississippi counties
As of 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 2026, ice remained on roads and bridges in 23 Mississippi counties, the Mississippi Department of Transportation said in a Facebook post.
The counties listed were Alcorn, Benton, Bolivar, Calhoun, Coahoma, DeSoto, Grenada, Lafayette, Leflore, Marshall, Panola, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Quitman, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica, Union, Washington and Yalobusha.
State officials urged travelers to make emergency trips only in areas affected by winter weather and to use extreme caution if driving. Closures remained in place on Interstate 55 northbound between Batesville (U.S. 278/Exit 243A) and Como (MS 310/Exit 257), and in both directions on Interstate 22 from Red Banks (Exit 21) to the Tennessee state line, the post said.
For live roadway information, the agency recommended downloading the MDOT Traffic app or visiting MDOTtraffic.com. Ice on bridges and elevated roadways can create hazardous conditions when temperatures are near or below freezing. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
