Hinds County courthouse, clerk’s office evacuate after possible hazardous device threat

JACKSON — The Hinds County Circuit Courthouse and the Hinds County Circuit Clerk’s Office were evacuated Monday after a reported threat involving a possible hazardous device, authorities said.

The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office said the evacuation will remain in effect until further notice as deputies and assisting law enforcement agencies respond to the scene. Officials did not provide details about the nature of the threat or say whether a device has been located.

Additional law enforcement partners are assisting in the response and the situation remains under investigation, the sheriff’s office said. No injuries have been reported, and authorities have not said when the buildings may reopen.

The Hinds County Circuit Courthouse in Jackson houses trial court operations for the county, and the circuit clerk’s office maintains court records and filings. This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
