Hattiesburg closes streets for Mardi Gras parades

The Hattiesburg Police Department said motorists should expect street closures and traffic delays for two Mardi Gras parades Friday and Saturday, Feb. 6-7, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

The Krewe of St. Catherine walking parade begins Friday, Feb. 6, at 6:30 p.m. The department said the walking parade will start on Main Street, travel through downtown and end near the Krewe of St. Catherine block party. Rolling street closures will be implemented along the route as the parade progresses.

The Caerus Mardi Gras Parade is set for Saturday, Feb. 7, at 10 a.m. Officials said roads along the parade route will begin closing at 7:30 a.m. The parade will travel along Hardy Street in front of the University of Southern Mississippi.

The Hattiesburg Police Department said officers will be on site to assist with traffic flow and public safety. Motorists were urged to plan ahead, expect delays and use alternate routes when possible.

Mardi Gras parades can draw large crowds and affect traffic in downtown areas. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
