Harrison County opens cold shelters for Jan. 27-28
Harrison County officials announced warming centers will open Tuesday, Jan. 27, and Wednesday, Jan. 28, in response to anticipated cold weather. The move is intended to provide temporary refuge for residents who need shelter from low temperatures.
The Kenny Fournier Multipurpose Building, 10395 Automall Parkway, D’Iberville, Mississippi 39540, will open at 4:30 p.m. The Salvation Army Center of Hope, 2019 22nd Street, Gulfport, Mississippi 39501, will open at 6 p.m.
Transportation assistance is available through the Coast Transit Authority. Officials said residents can call Coast Transit Authority at (228) 896-8080 or visit https://coasttransit.com/ for route information.
The Humane Society of South Mississippi is offering emergency sheltering for pets at 2615 25th Avenue, Gulfport, Mississippi 39501. Pets may be checked in between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. daily; contact the Humane Society for more information.
