Elevated fire danger develops along Natchez Trace corridor
Dry fuels, low relative humidity and gusty winds will create elevated fire danger Tuesday afternoon in areas along and northwest of the Natchez Trace corridor, while fire danger remains limited to the southeast, Darkhorse Press reported.
Darkhorse Press said open burning is discouraged in northwest areas because the combination of conditions can allow small fires to ignite and spread quickly. Officials commonly advise caution when vegetation is dry and winds are strong.
The Natchez Trace corridor runs through rural and wooded sections of the region and includes communities, recreation areas and private lands. Elevated fire danger can threaten homes, infrastructure and natural resources and can place added demand on local fire departments.
