Deputies arrest Tupelo man on meth trafficking charge

LEE COUNTY, Miss. — Deputies arrested a Tupelo man on March 13, 2026, after an undercover operation targeting suspected methamphetamine distribution in the Plantersville area of Lee County, Sheriff Jim H. Johnson said in a Facebook post.

Johnson said deputies, working with agents from the North Mississippi Narcotics Unit, conducted a joint undercover operation that led to the arrest of Ray Charles Thompson, 39, of Tupelo. Thompson was found in possession of what authorities described as a trafficking quantity of methamphetamine and was charged with trafficking a Schedule II controlled substance (methamphetamine).

A Lee County Justice Court judge set Thompson’s bond at $25,000, Johnson said. The Sheriff’s Office did not provide additional details about potential court dates or further charges.

The North Mississippi Narcotics Unit is a regional multi-agency task force that works with local law enforcement on investigations of illegal drugs and distribution. Methamphetamine is classified as a Schedule II controlled substance under state and federal law and trafficking charges carry serious legal penalties.

This arrest underscores local efforts to disrupt illegal drug distribution in Lee County. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
