Deputies arrest man after social media video leads to trailer recovery

LOWNDES COUNTY, Mississippi — Deputies arrested 58-year-old Michael Paul Hughes after a Facebook video showing a suspect taking a trailer from a residence led to the recovery of the stolen property, the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office said.

According to the sheriff’s office, the video circulated on social media and allowed investigators and members of the public to identify Hughes. Deputies located Hughes, took him into custody and recovered the trailer, the agency said.

Sheriff Eddie Hawkins thanked residents who shared information and urged continued vigilance. “If you see suspicious activity in your area, please report it immediately. Working together, we can keep our community safe,” Hawkins said.
