Coahoma County warns of hazardous roads as winter storm begins

COAHOMA COUNTY, Miss. — The Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office warned in a Facebook post that a winter storm warning takes effect the evening of Jan. 23, 2026, bringing ice and sleet that will create hazardous road conditions.

The post advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel and to use extreme caution if driving is unavoidable, saying roads, bridges and overpasses may become slick with little warning. The office also said it will provide courtesy transportation only to essential workers.

The sheriff’s office is the county agency responsible for law enforcement, emergency response and coordination with local agencies during severe weather. Winter storm warnings indicate hazardous winter weather is expected and can significantly affect travel, utilities and emergency services.

Officials urged residents to monitor local weather updates and follow instructions from public safety authorities. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
