Citizens Police Academy tours Southaven SWAT training

In a Facebook post, the Southaven Police Department said a Citizens Police Academy class spent an afternoon at the department’s Training Center with members of the SWAT team.

Lieutenant Tessaro and Officers Gregory, Gulde, Henry and Sims presented information on tactics and equipment used in high-risk situations, the post said. Two members of the department’s sniper team, Officers Henry and Sims, demonstrated their shooting abilities at the range, the post added.

The post also thanked Lenny’s of Southaven for providing dinner to participants. The Citizens Police Academy program, offered by many law enforcement agencies, gives residents an inside look at police training, operations and equipment to promote community understanding and transparency.

The Southaven Police Department serves the city of Southaven in DeSoto County, Mississippi, and conducts community outreach events to strengthen ties between officers and residents. The department said the session was intended to inform citizens about how officers prepare for and respond to high-risk incidents. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
