Chief Jones addresses Hinds County double death investigation
Chief Jones of the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office addressed an ongoing death investigation after deputies discovered the bodies of two people — identified in initial reports as a Black female and a Black male — in a rural area of Hinds County, officials said.
Jones spoke about the case in a Facebook reel, saying the sheriff’s office has opened an investigation. The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office is the primary law-enforcement agency for much of Hinds County, which includes the state capital, Jackson, and commonly responds to incidents in both urban and rural parts of the county.
In death investigations, authorities typically secure the scene, collect evidence, interview potential witnesses and work with the county coroner to determine cause of death. Those steps can take days or longer depending on forensic testing and investigative leads.
The discovery of two deceased people in a rural area has drawn attention from local residents and highlights safety and investigative concerns for the community. Officials have not released additional details about identities or causes of death. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
