Capitol Police open applications for 2026 spring Citizens Police Academy

The Mississippi Department of Public Safety is accepting applications for the 2026 Spring Citizens Police Academy for residents of the Capitol Complex Improvement District, the agency said in a Facebook post.

The weeklong program runs April 20-28, and the deadline to apply is April 15. The post said space is limited and encouraged interested residents to apply online at dps.ms.gov under the Capitol Police tab.

Participants will get a firsthand look at Capitol Police operations, including driver simulation training, a K-9 demonstration, forensic crime scene investigation and a ride-along with an officer, the post said. The program aims to give community members exposure to day-to-day law enforcement activities and procedures.

The Capitol Police are responsible for security and law enforcement within the state capitol complex and related facilities. Citizens police academies are commonly used by agencies nationwide to improve public understanding of police work and strengthen community relations. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
