Capitol Police open applications for 2026 Spring Citizens Academy
Capitol Police said in a Facebook post that applications are now being accepted for the 2026 Spring Citizens Academy for residents of the Capitol Complex Improvement District (CCID).
The seven-day program will meet from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, April 20-28, with a Saturday session from 9 a.m. to noon, the agency said.
The Citizens Academy offers residents an opportunity to engage directly with officers and gain firsthand insight into Capitol Police duties. The curriculum will include driver education and simulation activities, a K-9 demonstration, forensic crime scene investigation, a ride-along with a Capitol Police officer and an overview of Capitol Police operations, including the CCID court and its jurisdiction, the post said.
Applications are available at dps.ms.gov and must be submitted by April 15, 2026, the agency said. Capitol Police, which patrols the Capitol complex, said the program is intended to strengthen community understanding of law enforcement operations. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
