Authorities divert traffic on I-55, I-22 ahead of ice removal
Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Commercial Transportation Enforcement Division diverted traffic on portions of Interstate 55 and Interstate 22 on Wednesday because of potentially dangerous road conditions and Mississippi Department of Transportation crews removing ice from the roadways, officials said in a Facebook post.
Northbound traffic on Interstate 55 is being diverted from Exit 243 at Batesville to the Tennessee state line, and westbound traffic on Interstate 22 is being diverted from Exit 21 at Red Banks to the Tennessee state line, the post said.
Eastbound traffic on Interstate 22/U.S. Highway 78 is closed at Exit 1 at Craft Road, officials said. The Mississippi Highway Patrol warned that travelers who bypass barricades do so at their own risk.
Officials said the right lane of northbound Interstate 55 will reopen for travel at 8 a.m. on Jan. 29. The Mississippi Department of Transportation routinely coordinates winter maintenance and road clearing; drivers should monitor official agency channels for updates. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
