Lee County officer-involved shooting being investigated

July 19, 2025 – The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving the Verona Police Department that occurred near McCullough Boulevard and Interstate 22 in Tupelo.

Officers originally responded to a call to assist a neighboring agency in a pursuit with a hostage in the vehicle. The subject then wrecked, exited the vehicle and displayed a weapon at officers.

Officers then discharged their weapons striking the subject and causing serious injuries. The subject was transported to a nearby hospital. No officers were injured during the encounter.

MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.
