Friends of Children’s Hospital gives $1.5 million to renovate psychiatric unit
The University of Mississippi Medical Center said a $1.5 million gift from Friends of Children’s Hospital will fund a transformation of the child inpatient psychiatric unit at Children’s of Mississippi, creating a brighter, more supportive space for children ages 4 to 12 receiving critical mental health care.
Friends of Children’s Hospital is a volunteer nonprofit organization that raises funds and supports programs at Children’s of Mississippi, the pediatric arm of the University of Mississippi Medical Center. The donation is intended to upgrade the hospital environment where young patients receive intensive psychiatric treatment.
Inpatient psychiatric units provide short-term, intensive care for children with acute mental health needs and are a key component of the state’s pediatric behavioral health services. Hospital officials said the renovation aims to strengthen care for families across Mississippi by improving safety, comfort and therapeutic space for patients and staff.
The University of Mississippi Medical Center published details of the gift and planned renovations online. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
